A disconnected telephone, designed by the charity The Pilgrim Shed to offer comfort to bereaved people, has been destroyed less than a week after its installation in Homestead Park, Immingham, North East Lincolnshire.
The 'wind phone', which included a dial phone in a box and a bench, was set up last Wednesday by volunteers. On Monday, the group found the phone had been "ripped out and smashed".
Mick Cruddas, a trustee of The Pilgrim Shed, stated the group would not be deterred by the vandalism and plans to replace the phone. He added that approximately 20 members of The Pilgrim Shed were "cross and upset" by the incident.
The idea for the wind phone, which originated in Japan, was suggested to The Pilgrim Shed by local charity Acorn Youth. The Pilgrim Shed posted a photo of the damaged phone on social media on Monday, appealing for information.
