The reboot of Bergerac has catapulted Jersey to the forefront of Britain's desirable holiday destinations, with new research showing a significant spike in interest following its release on BBC iPlayer and BBC Two. According to data from Visit Jersey, viewers who have watched both the original series and the remake are four times more likely to consider visiting the island within the next two years.
A study commissioned by Visit Jersey reveals that watching Bergerac has a tangible impact on potential visitors' perceptions of Jersey. Those who tuned in were three times more inclined to book a trip, with the programme's reach having a substantial effect on the island's tourist appeal.
Tricia Warwick, Chief Executive of Visit Jersey, hailed the show as an "iconic connection" between Bergerac and Jersey, highlighting its rich history with the BBC. The first episode drew in 2.4 million viewers and is expected to attract even more following its wider release on the public service broadcaster.
Ms Warwick added that the series has had a lasting impact on raising Jersey's profile as a tourist destination, saying "stunning landscapes and unique locations" are waiting for visitors to discover. The show's first two episodes were set to air on BBC Two at 21:00 and 21:45 BST.
Executive producer Brian Constantine praised the series' strong position in the BBC schedule, crediting its quality and the dedication of all those involved. He also noted that the show's international sales are growing, demonstrating its widespread appeal beyond the Channel Islands.
