The summer holiday season is upon us, and for many families, it can be a daunting task to find a destination that fits within their budget. However, a new report has revealed the top affordable destinations for families in Europe, offering great value for money this summer.
The 18th annual Post Office Family Holiday Report has analysed the average costs of common holiday purchases in various European destinations, including a cup of coffee, a local beer, and a three-course family meal with wine and soft drinks. The report found that the Algarve in Portugal is the most affordable destination, with a total cost of £139.65 per family holiday basket, a 2.7 per cent decrease on last year.
The second most affordable destination is Sunny Beach in Bulgaria, although costs have increased by 9.3 per cent in the past year, likely due to Bulgaria's recent adoption of the euro. Lanzarote in the Canary Islands takes third place, while Menorca and the Spanish Costa Brava make surprising appearances in the top five.
The report also highlights the impact of the war in the Middle East, which has led to price rises in some of the most popular European holiday destinations. However, sterling has proved resilient against the euro, reducing the impact of price rises in resorts that families are visiting this summer.
For UK families looking to book a budget-friendly holiday, the report provides valuable insights into the best destinations to consider. With prices starting from just £139.65 per family holiday basket, the Algarve in Portugal is an excellent option for those looking for a affordable and enjoyable family holiday.
