A recent wardrobe clear-out by a woman from Beverley, East Yorkshire, has seen her collection of designer goods fetch more than £12,000 at auction. The sale, held last Friday by David Duggleby auctioneers in Scarborough, featured 66 luxury items, many of which had reportedly seen little to no use by their owner.
The extensive collection included a variety of high-end accessories, from iconic handbags by Chanel and Gucci to stylish coats, scarves, and sunglasses. Among the standout sales was a Louis Vuitton City Steamer MM Night Lights limited edition tote, which secured the highest individual price at £1,200. Other notable transactions included a Dolce & Gabbana Sicily Clock medium bag, selling for £850, and another Louis Vuitton item, an Estrela tote bag, which achieved £800.
Despite the overall success of the auction, one of the most anticipated items, a Chanel 19 medium flap bag, did not meet its reserve price. This particular bag, described by auctioneers as the "star of the show" and the final creation by the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, was estimated to sell for between £3,500 and £5,000. Interested buyers are still able to make offers for the coveted item, which Coralie Thomson from the auction house noted as "one of the most coveted bags in the fashion world."
Coralie Thomson expressed her enthusiasm for the sale, characterising it as a "unique event" that generated "enormous interest." She highlighted the opportunity to appreciate the "fantastic skill and artistry of some of the greatest fashion designers in the world" through the collection.
