Aspiring hosts for the 2036 Olympic Games must declare their interest by the end of October, following steps set out by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The summer Games are scheduled for Los Angeles in 2028 and Brisbane in 2032.
Seven nations have already expressed interest, with Qatar and India noted as early favourites. Qatar plans to utilise its 2022 World Cup infrastructure, while India is hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which some view as a rehearsal.
Other nations showing interest include Germany, Hungary, and Turkey from Europe, as well as South Africa and the Republic of Korea. Potential bids could also come from Chile, Egypt, Denmark, Indonesia, and Canada.
IOC president Kirsty Coventry stated that each host brings something unique through its people, culture, and staging choices. Bids will be evaluated based on their venue masterplan, funding strategy, political support, delivery capabilities, and legacy strategy.
