Open social network Bluesky has introduced an algorithmic opt-out feature, enabling users to stop their posts from appearing in the app’s main Discover feed. This change was implemented on Thursday, following the addition of longer video support yesterday.
The company stated that the feature was created for users who prefer to post solely for their followers, rather than having their content exposed to a wider audience. Posts on Bluesky are public by default, and the Discover feed can currently surface any public post on the network.
Users can activate this option in the app’s Privacy and Security settings, with the change taking up to an hour to fully take effect. This preference is recorded at the account level, meaning it extends beyond the Bluesky app to other applications powered by the AT Proto protocol, though these apps must choose to respect the setting.
