Rocking the music world with a shockwave of uncertainty, Bob Dylan's touring guitarist Bob Britt has shattered speculation about his sudden exit. The talented musician confirmed in a candid social media statement that he left the legendary singer-songwriter's live backing band by choice – not due to being fired, as initially feared.
Britt, who'd been an integral part of Dylan's stage presence since 2019 and a consistent fixture during the 'Rough And Rowdy Ways' tour, aimed to dispel the whispers. "I wasn't given the boot," he clarified, "but instead, I decided it was time for me to move on – reasons that are personal and best left private." Britt also expressed his gratitude towards his band mates and crew, hinting at a possible return to live performing in the future: "As for any touring plans, we'll just have to see what the road ahead holds," he added, with an immediate focus on getting back into session work.
This isn't the first change to Dylan's touring lineup, though. Earlier reports had Doug Lancio's electric guitar skills replaced by the acclaimed jazz guitarist Julian Lage, only for Lage to take a step back due to scheduling conflicts. Chicago-based musician Joel Paterson is now stepping up as Dylan's sole guitarist, making his debut in Austin, Texas, on June 29.
Bob Dylan's North American summer tour continues, with dates packed into July and wrapping up in Nashville, Tennessee, on August 1. Fans have been treated to a treasure trove of rare performances, including 'I Shall Be Released' for the first time since 2004 and 'You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere' since 2012.
While Britt has broken his silence, Doug Lancio remains tight-lipped about his departure from the band – leaving fans eagerly awaiting more information on this musical merry-go-round.
