Todd Boehly and Mark Walter have sold their combined 25 per cent stake in Chelsea, in a deal that values the Premier League club at £5bn. The agreement, announced last night, sees the former Chelsea chairman Boehly and Walter sell their shares for around £950m.

The sale means private equity firm Clearlake Capital will become the ultimate controllers of Chelsea, holding approximately 88 per cent of the club. Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss controls the remaining 12 per cent.

A Chelsea statement overnight confirmed that affiliates of Clearlake Capital Group will acquire Todd Boehly's ownership interest, with Clearlake also acquiring Mark Walter's interest to gain full control. The deal's completion is expected by the end of the year.

Todd Boehly stated it has been an honour to serve as Chairman and expressed confidence in Chelsea's continued success under Clearlake's leadership. Clearlake Capital thanked Boehly for his contribution and affirmed their focus on investing in the club's infrastructure, sporting performance, and player development.
