Iconic Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler, aged 75, has emerged from a medically induced coma, her family confirmed yesterday (Monday, 15th June). The 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart' star underwent emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal last month, leading to her subsequent placement in a coma to aid her recovery. While no longer comatose, she remains in intensive care and is described as 'very unwell'.
An update issued via Tyler's official website stated that her condition is showing signs of improvement, albeit slowly. Her medical team in Portugal reportedly remains optimistic about her eventual full recovery, though they anticipate a lengthy recuperation period. Tyler, who owns a home in Faro, had previously been reported as 'seriously ill but stable' in hospital on 12th May.
As a direct consequence of her ongoing health issues, all of Tyler's scheduled live performances for the summer, up to the end of August, have been cancelled or postponed until next year. The statement expressed apologies to fans and promoter partners for the disruption, asking for understanding during these challenging circumstances. However, there is still hope that her autumn shows might proceed as planned, depending on her recovery.
The family also took the opportunity to address previous 'lurid and untrue rumours' circulating regarding her health, expressing their disappointment at the speculation. They extended their gratitude for the 'huge outpouring of love and support' received from around the world, confirming that Tyler is aware of and deeply thankful for these well wishes.
Prior to her hospitalisation, Tyler had spoken positively about her health and upcoming European tour plans for 2026. In March, she told Hello! magazine, "I’m fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I’m really enjoying doing the shows. I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything." The family has reiterated their request for privacy and stated that further significant updates will be shared as they become available.
