Rain-lashed streets and a community reeling from shock: Blaina, Wales, is still grappling with the disappearance of 14-year-old Lilly, whose body was discovered in Duffryn Park on June 22. A stark reminder of the town's anguish came yesterday as police confirmed a 14-year-old boy has been charged with her murder.
Lilly had last been seen on High Street, Blaina, at approximately 6:50 pm on Saturday, June 20, sparking an urgent search operation by Gwent Police. Formal identification is still pending, but the force has released Lilly's name with her family's consent, highlighting its importance in the ongoing court proceedings.
The accused, described as white British and currently in custody, is due to appear at Newport Magistrates' Court on Friday. As investigations continue, members of the public have been leaving floral tributes near the scene, while parts of Pilgrims Park remain cordoned off.
Detective Chief Inspector Steven Thomas offered his sympathies to Lilly's family and friends, acknowledging the immense challenge they face. He also appealed for responsible online discourse, urging users not to speculate or prejudice the investigation, allowing justice to be served.
