Boy George withdraws from Jesus Christ Superstar after pro-Israel song release

Boy George has withdrawn from a London production of Jesus Christ Superstar, days after releasing a song supporting Israel's military action against Palestine.

  • Boy George was scheduled to play King Herod in the London Palladium production.
  • His manager stated the decision was "in the best interests of my artist" and aimed to allow the production to remain the focus.
  • The song, "We Will Dance Again," includes lyrics addressing critics of Israel and its military campaign.

Boy George has pulled out of a forthcoming London production of Jesus Christ Superstar, following the release of a controversial song that voices support for Israel’s military action against Palestine.

His manager, Paul Kemsley, announced on Instagram that Boy George would no longer appear in the musical at the London Palladium. Kemsley stated the decision was made "in the best interests of my artist" and to allow the production to remain the focus, while showing respect to others.

The song, titled "We Will Dance Again," addresses critics of Israel, whose military campaign has been described as genocidal by a UN commission. Lyrics include: “You say genocide, I say war / When you’re attacked, that’s what the army’s for.” Boy George was set to share the role of King Herod with four other actors, and Richard Armitage will now cover his performances.
