A three-year-old boy who sustained serious injuries after an incident in a zoo's crocodile enclosure has been discharged from hospital and is now settling back at home, his family has confirmed.
The child returned home a few weeks ago and is reportedly “happy to be home, playing with his toys, sleeping in his own bed and being a big brother,” according to an online update from his parents.
The incident, which occurred on 18 June, involved the child allegedly being thrown into one of the crocodile enclosures at Johnsons of Old Hurst, a zoo near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and later released on bail, as police stated he was “assessed as not being fit for interview.”
The family shared an update on a GoFundMe page on Monday, stating it was “nice to have us all back together in the comfort of our own home.” The fundraising page, set up to provide financial support and aid the boy’s recovery and rehabilitation, has raised more than £113,000 to date. His parents noted that all immediate surgeries are complete for now, allowing them to focus on rehabilitation at home.
