Oil giant BP has appointed Ian Tyler as its new chair. Tyler had been serving as interim chair since 26 May 2026, having joined BP as a non-executive director in April 2025.
He replaces Albert Manifold, who was removed from his positions as chair and director of the company in May 2026. Manifold had taken on the role in July 2025. The ousting was reportedly due to his "volcanic" temper, which included verbal abuse and bullying, though Manifold has disputed this characterisation.
Amanda Blanc, a BP director and Aviva chief executive, stated at the time that the board was "surprised and disappointed to learn of governance oversight and conduct issues it deems unacceptable and has taken decisive action." Blanc led the search for Manifold's replacement and described Tyler as bringing "significant experience providing challenge and support to executive teams, while maintaining strong governance and oversight on behalf of shareholder."
These leadership changes also follow the departure of former chief executive Murray Auchincloss, who was replaced by Meg O’Neill in April 2026.
