A woman from Bournemouth has celebrated two of life's most significant milestones in a whirlwind three-hour period, getting married before immediately attending her university graduation ceremony. Nele Washbourne, 33, tied the knot with her partner of ten years, Bradley Natt, at Liverpool Town Hall on Monday afternoon. Following the ceremony, she made a swift journey across the city to Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, where she graduated from Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU).
Ms Washbourne, who pursued a degree in History of Art & Museum Studies, described the remarkable coincidence of both events falling on the same day as "wild and unlikely." She noted that while it was "crazy" for the ceremonies to be so close together, it ultimately made the day even more memorable. The couple, who had been engaged for seven years, decided to marry this year to mark a period of significant personal achievements.
Explaining the timing, Ms Washbourne stated, "It's been a turbulent few years for me and my family, so we wanted to celebrate our achievements in a big way." She added that despite the tight schedule, it felt right for both events to occur on the same date, enhancing the overall special nature of the day. Her new husband, Bradley, was reportedly fully supportive of the unique arrangement, having encouraged her throughout her studies as a mature student.
Following the double celebration, the newlyweds hosted a reception at the Botanical Garden in Liverpool. The guest list included friends and family, with Ms Washbourne even inviting her course mates to join in the festivities, allowing them to celebrate their own academic achievements concurrently. The couple are now enjoying a mini-moon.
Ms Washbourne is currently working at LJMU's exhibition research lab and is actively seeking other roles in Liverpool that align with her academic background. Her previous experience includes an internship at the Guggenheim in Venice, alongside involvement in various art programmes across Liverpool during her university tenure, demonstrating her commitment to the arts sector.
