Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly launched a substantial £30 million bid for Tottenham Hotspur's promising young Croatian defender, Luka Vuskovic. The 19-year-old, who is yet to make a senior appearance for Spurs since his 2023 transfer from Hajduk Split, is widely regarded as one of Europe's most exciting defensive prospects.
Vuskovic spent the entirety of the last season on loan at Hamburg in the Bundesliga, where he enjoyed a breakthrough year in senior football. He featured in 30 matches across all competitions, including 28 league appearances, and subsequently made his full international debut for Croatia. His impressive form has also earned him a place in Zlatko Dalic’s 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup, where Croatia could potentially face England next week. Prior to his spell at Hamburg, Vuskovic also gained experience through loan stints with Westerlo in Belgium and Radomiak Radom in Poland.
This pursuit of Vuskovic by the Seagulls unfolds amidst ongoing discussions between Brighton and Tottenham regarding the potential transfer of fellow central defender Jan Paul van Hecke. Tottenham have reportedly shown interest in the Dutch defender, with two previous bids from the North London club for Van Hecke already being rejected by Brighton.
Brighton are actively strengthening their defensive options under manager Roberto De Zerbi, particularly ahead of their return to European competition in the Conference League next season. The club has already secured the services of Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers, following the expiration of their contracts at Liverpool and Bournemouth, respectively. The potential acquisition of Vuskovic would further bolster their squad depth for what promises to be a busier campaign with additional European fixtures.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are aiming to recover from a challenging 2025-26 Premier League season, which saw them narrowly avoid relegation on the final day. The campaign was marked by significant managerial upheaval, with the club going through three managers – Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor were sacked before De Zerbi was appointed. Securing a significant fee for a young talent like Vuskovic could provide funds for their own rebuilding efforts, while their interest in Van Hecke suggests a desire to strengthen their defence.
