Bristol posted an early-season statement win by beating Gallagher Prem champions Northampton 41-26 at Ashton Gate.
Wales wing Louis Rees-Zammit scored twice, following up his two tries against Sale Sharks, as Bristol secured a bonus-point success. Harry Randall, Gabriel Oghre and Tom Jordan also crossed, and there was a penalty try, with James Williams kicking three conversions and a penalty.
Northampton trailed by just a point at half time and remained in contention, with George Hendy scoring twice and Alex Mitchell and Josh Kemeny also touching down. Fin Smith kicked three conversions. Saints finished with 13 players after yellow cards for Tommy Freeman and Ion Neculai.
Bristol's Benhard Janse van Rensburg was able to watch the second half from the touchline after being carried off following a midfield collision that required prolonged treatment.
