Britain's first astronaut, Helen Sharman, officially opened the John Dulcamara Space Flight Museum at Grizedale Observatory and Planetarium in the Lake District on Friday.
The museum's collection was donated by private collector John Dulcamara and features a variety of artefacts, including a piece of the command module from the 1969 Apollo 11 mission. Sharman described the collection as "extraordinary," noting it includes items from both the Apollo 11 and the Russian space programme.
Grizedale Observatory, near Ambleside, Cumbria, opened in May 2024, providing public access to telescopes, a planetarium, and a meteorite laboratory. During her visit, Sharman also met with local schoolchildren to discuss her experiences aboard the Mir Space Station.
