Harry Brook narrowly missed a century for England, scoring 91 runs before being bowled by Pakistan's Ali Usman on day two of the first Rothesay Test at Headingley. Despite Brook's dismissal, England ended the day in a commanding position, reaching 366 for eight, a lead of 195 runs.

Brook, who recently reclaimed the top spot in the world batting rankings, was dismissed after misreading a left-arm spinner from Usman. Earlier, England's batting line-up saw significant contributions from returning captain Joe Root, who scored 66, and newly-installed number three Jordan Cox, who made 73. Dan Lawrence also added 51 runs.

Pakistan's fielding effort was described as ragged, with several dropped chances, including Brook on one run and Cox from a caught and bowled opportunity. The morning session was affected by a washout, but 58 overs were played after a 2:45 pm start.
