Visitors to Buckingham Palace's Picture Gallery can now view almost twice as many paintings as previously displayed. This summer's Summer Opening sees 120 artworks on show, a significant increase from the original 63. According to the Royal Collection, the transformation took 875 hours to complete, with the installation of emerald-green silk wall hangings and new lighting.
The Picture Gallery has undergone several renovations and rehangs throughout its history, with this latest display continuing the tradition of showcasing the Royal Collection. The room, originally designed to feature George IV's collection, has been decorated in various colours over the years, including golden yellow, lilac, and crimson red.
Highlights of the redisplay include The Tribuna of the Uffizi by Johan Zoffany, A Rough Dog by George Stubbs, and Thomas Gainsborough's portrait of the musician Johann Christian Fischer. A new oil painting of King Charles III by Jonathan Yeo is also on display this summer.
The Picture Gallery is open to the public as part of Buckingham Palace's Summer Opening, with tickets available through the Royal Collection Trust.
