  • The UK will accelerate the delivery of British Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMMs) to Ukraine.
  • Chancellor John Healey will use IMF meetings to call for a ban on Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Prime Minister Andy Burnham is scheduled to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Downing Street on Wednesday. During the meeting, the UK will announce an acceleration in its delivery of air defence missiles to Kyiv.

Mr Burnham is also expected to outline how his government plans to implement further sanctions against Russia. Ahead of the meeting, he stated that the UK stands with Ukraine "for as long as it takes," adding that "Russian aggression cannot be allowed to succeed on our continent."

Among the measures being announced is the quicker delivery of British Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMMs). The UK has previously committed to sending over 5,000 LMMs, valued at £1.6bn, over the next four years. The UK will also reaffirm its plans to fully implement a maritime services ban on Russian LNG exports.

Chancellor John Healey will use International Monetary Fund (IMF) meetings to urge allies to increase pressure on Russia, specifically calling for a ban on Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG).

This visit marks President Zelensky's second to the UK since Mr Burnham became prime minister. Their first meeting occurred in late July, shortly after Mr Burnham entered No 10.

Why this matters: The UK's accelerated support and call for further sanctions aim to bolster Ukraine's defence and increase economic pressure on Russia.
