Prime Minister Andy Burnham, while serving as Mayor of Greater Manchester, had two hospitality dinners with Manchester City football club's chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, in 2017 and 2018. These events were not specified in a statement released on Monday by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) regarding his meetings with the club.
A previous GMCA register of declarations for Burnham, seen by the BBC, detailed a dinner with the chairman at an Everton match in August 2017, valued at £300, and another at a Man City/Man Utd derby in April 2018, valued at approximately £699. This register has since been deleted from the GMCA website.
Downing Street has stated that this was hospitality received at home games and had been declared, rather than separate meetings. However, political pressure on Burnham to provide further clarity on his past discussions with Manchester City continues to increase.
Manchester City was found guilty in September of breaching Premier League financial regulations between 2009 and 2018, a verdict the club is appealing.
