The government's focus on the NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) crisis is highlighted, with one million young people currently in this category. Burnham's plans for boosting technical education are intended to help build a pipeline of young people ready for work.
Additionally, Mr Burnham has indicated a move towards greater conditionality for welfare payments for young people. This could mean that individuals might face losing sickness benefits if they do not undertake voluntary work or training.
