England's hopes of winning the Metro Bank One-Day Series were hampered by a hamstring injury to Jos Buttler, as Sri Lanka secured a 16-run victory at Headingley to level the series.

  • Jos Buttler sustained a hamstring injury while batting on 66 not out.
  • Sri Lanka won the second ODI by 16 runs, chasing 322.
  • The series is now tied at 1-1, with a decider scheduled for Sunday.

England's pursuit of the Metro Bank One-Day Series was disrupted by a hamstring injury to Jos Buttler during their 16-run defeat to Sri Lanka at Headingley. The tourists' victory squared the series at 1-1, setting up a decider.

England were tasked with chasing 322 after Kusal Mendis' century (121) put pressure on the hosts. An opening stand of 143 between Ben Duckett (67) and Tom Banton (73) had England in a strong position.

Buttler, batting on 66 not out, collapsed clutching his left leg, forcing him to retire hurt. Although he later returned, struggling with the injury, his last-gasp effort was unsuccessful. Will Jacks contributed 52, but England ultimately fell short, reaching 305 for nine.

Dunith Wellalage's three-wicket burst was crucial for Sri Lanka, who took first use of the batting track. The series will now be decided at the Kia Oval on Sunday.
