A 22-carat golden egg, part of a 1980s Cadbury's advertising campaign, has sold for a record £123,500 at auction. The Cadbury's Conundrum egg, a prize in a 1983 nationwide treasure hunt, sold at six times its estimated value in Lincolnshire on 1 August.
The egg, known as Cuckoo Cuckoo, was created by Royal Goldsmiths Garrard & Co. It was uncovered by Clive Pinder in Somerset in 1983.
Greg Bateman of Batemans Auctioneers & Valuers in Stamford described the sale as "absolutely incredible" and a highlight of his career. The result set a new auction house record for Batemans and a new world auction record for any Cadbury's Conundrum egg.
