Calendly, known for its scheduling software, has entered the meeting note-taking market with a product that joins meetings, records audio and video, and transcribes them. It can then generate summaries, action items, and draft follow-up emails. The company said it is also testing a feature that uses system audio to transcribe meetings.
Calendly is also planning to release an AI assistant named Callie that taps into its existing scheduling stack to set up meetings, check people's availability, and surface context from prior meetings. CEO Tope Awotona said the company wanted to automate workflows for users in outward-facing roles like sales and marketing, whose workdays are often filled with meetings.
Awotona acknowledged the competitive landscape, noting that many note-takers already do a good job of recording and transcribing. He said the opportunity lies in automating tasks after the meeting: “There's a litany of notetakers, and all of them do a great job of recording and transcribing notes. But a lot of work happens after the meetings. And we think that really that's where the opportunity for our note-takers to be efficient.”
Given privacy concerns facing some competitors, Awotona said Calendly's note-taker will inform users that their meeting is being recorded. The assistant sends a chat message to announce its presence, and any user can ask it to leave. It can also notify participants before the meeting starts, thanks to its integration with Calendly's scheduling system.
