The University of Cambridge has announced a review into its process for vetting and hiring senior academic staff. This move comes in response to criticism regarding the appointment of Jason Arday as a professor.

However, a group of Cambridge academics has quickly rejected the university's approach, stating that a "thorough and transparent investigation into the wider circumstances of this damaging episode is essential."

Jason Arday resigned earlier this week after questions arose concerning his personal and professional claims. His resignation occurred three-and-a-half years after he was appointed as Cambridge's youngest black professor.

The university stated on Friday that it would continue to investigate the circumstances of Arday's appointment and tenure, with findings to inform the review of senior academic appointments. Jesus College, where Arday was a fellow, has dropped its plans for a parallel investigation following his resignation.
