A campervan trip through France has been described as awe-inspiring, with the author travelling for five weeks from Caen down to the south of France and on to the Alps.
Writing for the Independent, Katie Mather said she and her husband Tom drove a self-converted campervan, stopping every two hours or so as temperatures reached 38C in the afternoon heat. The route passed through the Loire, vineyards, volcanoes, limestone rock formations and the Garrigue of Occitanie.
She advised having a rough idea of places to visit and checking for national holidays, and recommended booking campsites as an easy way to follow the law and avoid annoying locals. In Leucate, the couple stayed at a cheap campsite for a couple of nights, and later spent a week in Chamonix-Mont Blanc at a campsite at the foot of the Bossons Glaciers.
The article lists Camping Les Cimes in Chamonix at around £30 per night and Camping Municipal Cap Leucate in Leucate at around £25 per night, both with clean facilities.
