Critically acclaimed medical drama The Pitt has recently been making waves in the entertainment industry, and one of its guest stars, Canadian actress Brittany Allen, has taken matters into her own hands after being overlooked for Emmy consideration by HBO.
Allen appeared in seven episodes of the show's second season, playing terminally ill patient Roxie Hamler, but was initially expected to appear in eight episodes, which would have made her eligible for the supporting actress category. However, the final scene she filmed, in which Roxie lies dead in a hospital bed after succumbing to lung cancer, was ultimately cut.
Speaking to Variety, Allen said she was waiting to see if the scene would be included, but when it was not, she decided to take action and launch her own campaign for Emmy consideration. 'You have to fight for yourself,' she said. 'You have to believe in your work, and you can't expect other people to do that for you.'
Allen has previously submitted herself for Emmy consideration in 2011 for her supporting role as Marissa Chandler on the popular soap opera All My Children, and won the Daytime Emmy for outstanding younger actress in a drama series. She has also been open about the challenges of self-promotion in the entertainment industry, saying that 'the industry is built on hype, and if nobody is creating that hype for you, you have to find a way to do it yourself.'
The Pitt, which debuted in 2025 and dominated that year's Emmy awards, stars Noah Wyle alongside an ensemble cast as a group of emergency room doctors in Pittsburgh. Season three is currently in production, with an expected premiere date of January 2027.
