The long-awaited boxing bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is increasingly likely to take place in Cardiff this winter. The Welsh capital has emerged as the favourite to host the fight, which could begin as late as 2am.
Reports suggest that the devolved government is prepared to waive the current 10:30pm curfew for events at the Principality Stadium, a key factor in Cardiff's favour. This potential move could allow the fight to accommodate stakeholders' demands for a later start time.
While broadcaster Netflix, Saudi Arabian backer Sela, and Team Fury reportedly favour Madison Square Garden in New York City, Team Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn is said to be strongly advocating for a British venue. Wembley Stadium was a contender, but its ability to host a late-night event has been a sticking point for London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
Fury's manager Spencer Brown told Sky Sports that "it's inching closer and it looks like it could be the British boxing bonanza that we all hoped for taking place in Britain," adding that "Three venues are still under consideration with Cardiff and Wembley still in the running."
