Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has called for the club to drop Florian Wirtz after what he described as his "worst performance yet" against Bournemouth. Wirtz has yet to score a goal this season after six matches and struggled to make an impact in Liverpool's 1-0 victory at the Vitality Stadium.
Carragher criticised Wirtz's display on commentary, stating, "Wirtz has been really poor again. It's just nothing. Nothing is happening there at all." He further suggested on his Sky Sports podcast that Wirtz may never justify his reported £100m price tag from summer 2025, advocating for manager Andoni Iraola to omit him from the squad for their upcoming match against Manchester City on 11 October.
Wirtz will not play for Liverpool for three weeks due to an international break. Following the Manchester City fixture, Liverpool faces further tests against Brentford, Brighton, and Arsenal.
