The family of the late Hollywood actor Chadwick Boseman, beloved for his role as Marvel's Black Panther, is currently engaged in a legal challenge against his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, over the handling of his substantial estate. Boseman's brothers, Derrick and Kevin Boseman, have initiated court proceedings in Los Angeles, seeking to compel Ledward to distribute funds to family members and to have her removed from her position as the estate's administrator.
The core of the dispute revolves around allegations that Ledward has mismanaged the distribution of funds and cannot be trusted with the ongoing administration of the estate. Court documents indicate that Boseman, who tragically passed away at the age of 43 in 2020 from colon cancer, died without a will. Consequently, a court had previously determined that 50% of his assets should go to his widow, with 25% allocated to each of his parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, who are now elderly.
The petition, filed last week on behalf of their parents, claims that Ledward “has still not distributed the estate” and “continues to exert unilateral control” over it. Furthermore, the brothers accuse Ledward of fostering a “lack of transparency” concerning Boseman's assets and of keeping his parents “in the dark” about the operations and deals of a company established to manage his image and rights.
Boseman's siblings argue that Ledward's alleged misconduct is causing ongoing harm to their vulnerable parents, depriving them of crucial financial support at a critical age. They also state that the prolonged legal proceedings deny the family closure and inflict emotional distress. The brothers expressed their commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and respect in the resolution of these matters, aiming to honour the court's orders and ensure responsible stewardship of Chadwick's legacy.
