It's a major coup for Chelsea as they secure the signing of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, with the French defender set to bolster their defence with his impressive credentials and physical presence. The highly-rated centre-back, who has been one of the Premier League's standout performers since arriving in England, will join the Blues on a long-term contract reportedly running until 2032.
The deal, which has been negotiated at ownership level between the two London clubs, is set to be finalised with Lacroix completing a medical within the next 24 hours. Palace had reportedly been seeking a fee in the region of £60 million for the France international, but it seems personal terms won't be an issue, paving the way for a significant defensive acquisition.
Lacroix joined Crystal Palace from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in August 2024 for an initial fee of £15.5 million, with an additional £2.6 million in potential add-ons. In his two seasons at Selhurst Park, he played a pivotal role in Oliver Glasner's squad, making 55 appearances in all competitions last season alone.
The defender's impressive form also earned him a place in France's squad for the 2026 World Cup, where he featured in three matches, including starts against Norway and England in the third-place play-off as Les Bleus secured a fourth-place finish. His physical attributes, including his 6ft 4in frame and exceptional recovery pace, have made him a standout performer.
Chelsea's interest in Lacroix stems from his dominant performances and tactical versatility, which will appeal to head coach Xabi Alonso.
