Chelsea claimed a valuable point in the Champions League on Wednesday, as head coach Sonia Bompastor returned to face her former team, OL Lyonnes. The English side delivered a controlled performance, despite the match being surprisingly low on goalmouth action.
Lyonnes, who had scored at least seven times in all four of their matches this season, were denied early on by Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, who made a sharp save from Salma Paralluelo in the 20th minute. Melchie Dumornay also saw an effort fizz just wide for the French side.
The second half saw Chelsea start brighter, with a penalty claim for a foul on Sjoeke Nüsken overturned due to an offside. Later, a penalty awarded to Chelsea for a foul on Lauren James was also overturned after a video assistant review. Chelsea's best chance late on was blocked by Maria Grohs, while Hampton made another superb save from Ada Hegerberg.
The draw gives Chelsea a platform to build on in the competition, with the team now having accumulated four points from their first two group stage matches.
