Katie Lee Biegel, the former wife of legendary musician Billy Joel, has shared details of an uncomfortable interaction with actor Chevy Chase during a high-profile party she co-hosted. Biegel, a well-known Food Network star, discussed the incident on a recent episode of her podcast, 'All on the Table with Katie Lee Biegel', describing Chase as 'not so nice'.
The encounter reportedly took place at what Biegel described as an 'old-school keg party' that she and Joel threw years ago. She recalled the event as a 'very star-studded party' designed to be a celebratory end-of-summer gathering, complete with Jell-O shots and kegs. However, the festive atmosphere was briefly marred for Biegel by the veteran actor's actions.
According to Biegel's account, she approached Chase and his wife with a tray of Jell-O shots while they were conversing with Billy Joel. When she offered them a shot, Chase allegedly mistook her for a member of the catering staff. She stated that he then 'took his hand and shooed me away', a gesture that left a lasting impression.
Chevy Chase, known for his roles in classic films such as National Lampoon's Vacation, Caddyshack, and Fletch, has a long-standing reputation in Hollywood for being difficult to work with. Over the years, numerous reports have detailed feuds and conflicts involving the actor, including run-ins with figures like John Belushi, Bill Murray, and his Community co-stars Joel McHale and Donald Glover.
In contrast to her experience with Chase, Biegel also shared a much more pleasant memory of meeting Jon Stewart in 2003. She recounted how Stewart, then a prominent television personality, was her very first customer when she worked at a fish market in Sag Harbor during her initial summer in the Hamptons. Biegel described Stewart as 'so nice' and 'patient' during their interaction.
Biegel and Billy Joel were married in 2004 when she was 23 and he was 55, divorcing five years later in 2009. Joel later spoke about their relationship and his struggles with alcoholism in a documentary, dismissing rumours of an affair and stating they simply 'drifted apart'. Biegel also suggested that Joel resented her for encouraging him to seek rehabilitation, which made it 'hard to recover' their connection.
