The City of London Investment Trust has reached a 60-year milestone, having increased its dividend payout every year for six decades. The trust, which invests in UK-listed equities, includes HSBC, Shell, and NatWest among its top holdings as of 31 July.

Job Curtis, fund manager at the trust, stated that this achievement reflects the resilience of the UK market and the benefits of the investment trust structure. He added that their investment approach focuses on patience, valuation discipline, and long-term thinking.

Meanwhile, BlackRock Greater Europe became a 'dividend hero' in May 2026, having achieved its twentieth consecutive year of increased dividends. This trust invests in equities across various European countries, with holdings in sectors such as technology, energy, and healthcare.

Looking ahead, three investment trusts – Bankers Investment Trust, Alliance Witan, and Caledonia Investments – could reach the 60-year threshold next year, having consistently raised dividends for the past 59 years.

Why this matters: Investment trusts can use income reserves to maintain or boost dividends during challenging market conditions, offering a potentially resilient income stream for investors.
