Jeremy Clarkson, the renowned TV presenter, made headlines this week after gifting two tickets for England's World Cup 2026 group stage match against Ghana to a pair of delighted fans. Clarkson, 66, who is currently in Boston covering the FIFA World Cup for The Sun newspaper, decided to part with his allocated tickets due to inclement weather conditions.
The former Top Gear host explained his decision in a video posted to X on Tuesday, stating, "I had two tickets from them and then it’s raining so I thought, ‘I don’t want to be outside.’" Instead of enduring the rain in the stands, Clarkson revealed he had plans to watch the fixture from a more comfortable "posh box." He subsequently found two England supporters, Gary Collier, an electrical engineer, and Derry Robson, a semi-professional footballer for Pontefract Collieries in West Yorkshire, who were without tickets.
Both Collier and Robson expressed immense gratitude for the unexpected gesture, with Collier remarking, "We’ve got one. We’ve been trying all morning for them. Thank you very much." Robson added, "We’re very appreciative." After the match, Robson further thanked Clarkson on X, calling him "a top guy." England's second group stage match against Ghana concluded in a 0-0 draw, leaving fans eager for the team's next performance.
This act of generosity comes shortly after Clarkson publicly shared his health journey, revealing a cancer diagnosis in the penultimate episode of 'Clarkson's Farm' earlier this month, which he had kept private since 2025. He later provided an update at the weekend, confirming he is now officially in remission after what he described as "cheating death twice."
Clarkson has also spoken about significant lifestyle changes following heart surgery for blocked arteries and his cancer recovery, telling The Times: "I drive much more slowly. I’m a bit of a dawdler. I go for walks a lot. I have vegetarian food." England's next World Cup fixture is against Panama on Saturday 27 June, as they continue their campaign in the group stage.
