Claude Chats and Artifacts Found Publicly Searchable on Google

An untold number of Claude chats and Artifacts were found publicly searchable on Google after Reddit users discovered a search operator that surfaced a long list of shared conversations.

  • Claude chats and Artifacts were found publicly searchable on Google using a search operator.
  • Some shared conversations contained health records, private company documents, and personal information.
  • Anthropic's usage policy prohibits Claude from generating sexually explicit content, but some exposed chats contained explicit content.

An untold number of Claude chats and Artifacts were found publicly searchable on Google over the weekend. The issue appears to have originated from Claude's 'share chat' feature, which allows users to create links that enable anyone with the assigned URL to view a conversation or project. Anthropic's spokeswoman Amie Rotherham stated that share links only appear in search results when they've been posted somewhere search engines can see, like a forum or social media post.

Why this matters: The exposure raises concerns about the privacy and security of shared conversations and Artifacts.

What this means for you: If you have shared Claude chats or Artifacts publicly, review your settings to ensure they are not publicly accessible.
