Popular television personality Claudia Winkleman has announced her departure from her self-titled BBC chat show after just one series. The host of The Traitors and former presenter of Strictly Come Dancing revealed she found the experience too nerve-wracking to fully enjoy, despite the programme's relatively strong viewership figures.
The Claudia Winkleman Show, which premiered in March 2026, concluded after only seven episodes. Winkleman expressed her gratitude to the BBC, her guests, and the production team, stating that sometimes one must 'try something to see how it fits'. She added that she realised she was 'just too nervous to enjoy it', preferring her existing roles which she 'absolutely loves'.
This decision comes as a surprise to many, especially given Winkleman's soaring popularity following the immense success of The Traitors and its celebrity version. Her foray into the chat show format was widely anticipated, with the show attracting an average combined audience of between 1.5 million and 2 million viewers, according to BBC figures. While her presenting style is often lauded, critics were divided on the chat show, with some suggesting the format did not fully utilise her distinctive wit and knowing observations.
The chat show genre is notoriously difficult to master, and Winkleman's experience highlights the pressures associated with conducting celebrity interviews and engaging a live audience. Other prominent presenters, such as Davina McCall, have also spoken about the challenges of the format. Winkleman herself had prior experience with live interview stress early in her career on BBC's Liquid News.
Ed Havard, Director of Entertainment at the BBC, acknowledged Winkleman's decision, praising her 'warmth and quick wit' on the show. He confirmed that Winkleman remains a key figure for the broadcaster, with her set to return to screens later this year for The Celebrity Traitors. The BBC fully respects her choice and thanked her and the production team, So Television, for their work on the series.
