Todd Boehly and Mark Walter have completed the sale of their stakes in Chelsea, a move that sees private equity company Clearlake Capital assume full control of the Premier League club. The American businessmen were part of the investor group that acquired Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in May 2022.
Clearlake Capital previously held a 61.5% share, with Boehly, Walter, and Hansjörg Wyss holding the remaining shares. Following this deal, Clearlake will also acquire Mark Walter’s ownership interest, while Hansjörg Wyss will remain a stakeholder.
Boehly, who served as chairman, expressed confidence in Chelsea's future under Clearlake's leadership. Clearlake co-founders Behdad Eghbali and José Feliciano stated their focus remains on investing in the club's infrastructure, sporting performance, and player development.
Chelsea, currently sixth in the Premier League and with Xabi Alonso appointed as manager this summer, has stated there will be no changes to the club's day-to-day operations, leadership, or strategy.
