The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is currently evaluating a remedies package from Co-operative Group Limited (Co-op Group). This package includes the proposed sale of 15 convenience stores and 2 funeral homes.

The CMA's phase 1 investigation into Co-op Group's acquisition of Southern Co-op raised concerns that the deal could reduce local competition for convenience store shoppers and individuals arranging attended funeral services in specific areas.

Both businesses acknowledged these competition concerns during the investigation and offered undertakings to address them. The CMA has provisionally indicated that the proposed sales could resolve its concerns and will now seek third-party feedback and consider potential buyers.
