The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has opened an investigation into Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited concerning its compliance with consumer protection law. The probe, which began on 18 August 2026, focuses on how the airline presents mandatory fees for package holidays offered in the UK.
Specifically, the CMA is examining whether fees like resort fees or local taxes are included in the total price shown to consumers at the start of the purchasing process. The investigation will also consider if a total price is provided when customers buy a package holiday.
The CMA plans to engage with Virgin Atlantic and gather evidence as part of its investigation. The authority has stated that it should not be assumed at this initial stage that Virgin Atlantic has infringed consumer protection law, and no finding has been made.
