The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has published statistics detailing the number of 'qualifying disclosures' received between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026. These disclosures are reports of wrongdoing made by individuals, often referred to as whistleblowing.
The CMA is designated as a 'Prescribed Person' under the Prescribed Persons Order 2014. This framework aims to protect individuals who report wrongdoing involving their employer.
For a disclosure to be covered by whistleblowing law, it must be a 'qualifying disclosure'. This means the worker must reasonably believe the disclosure is in the public interest and indicates a criminal offence, a breach of legal obligation, a miscarriage of justice, a danger to health or safety, environmental damage, or a deliberate cover-up of such wrongdoing.
