Seamus Coleman has been omitted from the Republic of Ireland squad for the forthcoming Nations League matches against Kosovo, Israel, and Austria. The 37-year-old defender has been without a club since his 17-year tenure with Everton concluded at the end of the 2025-26 season.
Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson stated that Coleman's absence was largely his own decision, citing concerns about taking a place from other players while not training with a club. Hallgrimsson expressed his hope that Coleman would be involved with the squad in the future, potentially as a player.
Sheffield United loanee Liam Kitching has received his first call-up to the national squad. Other players not considered due to injury include captain Nathan Collins, Evan Ferguson, Josh Cullen, Jack Taylor, Mikey Johnston, Oisin McEntee, and Jimmy Dunne. Robbie Brady is also absent as he is without a club.
The Republic of Ireland is scheduled to play Kosovo on 24 September, followed by matches against Israel on 27 September, Austria on 1 October, and a second fixture against Israel on 4 October.
