Comedian Bella Hull Reflects on Decade in Stand-Up and SNL Writing Role

Comedian Bella Hull, 28, discusses her decade-long career in stand-up comedy, which began at age 17, and her current role as a writer for the new UK version of Saturday Night Live.

  • Bella Hull, 28, started performing stand-up comedy at 17.
  • She had a sell-out show at last year's Edinburgh Fringe and is a writer for the new UK version of Saturday Night Live.
  • Hull's upcoming Edinburgh Fringe show is titled 'Mad Cow Disease'.

Bella Hull, who began her stand-up comedy career at 17, describes comedy as a compulsion. Now 28, Hull has achieved significant success, including a sell-out show at last year's Edinburgh Fringe with "Doctors Hate Her" and appearances on television programmes such as Have I Got News For You and The News Quiz.

Hull also holds a writing role for the new UK version of Saturday Night Live. She notes that her experiences in club comedy, which she describes as a "rigorous" training ground, have shaped her joke-writing and stage confidence.

Her upcoming Edinburgh Fringe show, "Mad Cow Disease," is described as "very Emin-coded" and will explore themes including ant infestations, fears of inheriting mental health conditions, and yearning for a baby.

Following her August performances in Edinburgh, Hull is scheduled for the second series of SNL in September.
