Groups of quad bikes and off-road motorcycles have been observed riding through Birmingham city centre, with residents reporting them weaving through traffic, performing wheelies, and disregarding red lights. Videos shared on social media show riders, often with covered faces and no visible number plates, travelling through areas including Hurst Street, Bristol Road, and Corporation Street.
A Birmingham resident described hearing revving engines followed by groups of bikes, noting that a pedestrian narrowly avoided being struck in one instance. Content creator GB Street Stories has also filmed riders, stating that their actions endanger others and damage public property, citing instances of breaking traffic laws and speeding through stop signs at tram tracks.
Beyond safety concerns, the noise generated by the bikes is a source of frustration, particularly in pedestrian areas. Street wardens in Birmingham city centre have also witnessed these groups and have shared information with relevant agencies.
West Midlands Police have acknowledged concerns regarding the antisocial use of e-scooters and off-road bikes in the city centre. Officers are working to address the issue and encourage the public to report incidents. Riders found causing a nuisance are liable for prosecution, and their vehicles can be seized.
