Birmingham is bracing itself for a dramatic drop in temperature from today, as the Met Office confirms a significant shift towards cooler autumnal weather. Temperatures will struggle to reach double digits for much of the week, with highs of around 9°C to 10°C expected – a far cry from the milder spells experienced recently.
The updated forecast shows temperatures across the West Midlands and wider UK struggling to warm up. In Birmingham, the chilly weather is accompanied by an increased chance of rainfall, with some heavier showers possible. Other parts of the region are not immune either, with Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales also expected to see cooler conditions.
The Met Office's latest outlook suggests that light to moderate winds will prevail for most areas, but stronger gusts could develop in line with any heavier bands of rain. Overnight temperatures will likely be significantly lower than those experienced recently, prompting the Met Office to advise residents to prepare for unsettled conditions and dress warmly.
The change in weather is attributed to a shift in air mass, which has brought cooler, moister air from the Atlantic. This should persist for several days, with forecasters indicating that temperatures are unlikely to rise significantly above average for the time of year anytime soon. The long-range forecast suggests a continuation of unsettled conditions across much of the UK.
