The UK is experiencing a return to unsettled weather this week, with cooler temperatures, rain, and strong winds forecast for many areas. Low pressure systems are expected to bring wet and windy conditions, particularly to the north of the UK, at the beginning of the week.
Following a heat spike on Sunday, when temperatures approached 29C in south-east England, it will feel cooler across much of England and Wales. On Monday, a weather front will sweep across England and Wales, bringing a band of cloud and some showers, with temperatures peaking at 25C in south-east England.
Northern Ireland will see a band of heavier rain develop on Monday morning, spreading to Scotland and Cumbria in the afternoon. This will be accompanied by strong and gusty southwesterly winds, limiting temperatures to around 17C in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Tuesday is expected to be particularly windy in northern parts of the UK, with gusts of 50-60mph possible in northern and western Scotland. Further south, a spell of rain will linger in the southeast during Tuesday morning before clearing.
A more settled picture is expected midweek as the area of low pressure moves into the North Sea, bringing dry conditions for most with some sunshine and lighter winds. Showers are forecast to return to western parts of the UK on Thursday, dying out on Friday. Midweek temperatures will be near the seasonal average, with highs of 22C in the south-east.
