School pupils in Corby are participating in the town's initiative to become the UK's inaugural Town of Culture in 2028. Youngsters and residents are sharing stories about where they live by writing them on postcards, as part of a town-wide effort launched last week.
Corby is among 15 towns shortlisted for the title, which carries a £3m prize. Town council leader Simon Rielly stated that the area has "a great chance of success." Corby is competing in the medium towns category against locations such as Great Yarmouth in Norfolk.
Students from Tresham College and other sixth forms are scheduled to design the official bid logo, while a social media campaign is also being prepared. Partners met on 13 August to discuss further ideas, including securing support from high-profile ambassadors connected to Corby. The final bid must be presented by 30 November, with judges expected to visit in the new year.
