A coroner has ruled that three sisters found drowned in the sea off Brighton took their own lives. Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were pulled from the water on 13 May.
Senior coroner Penelope Schofield stated that the women, who had been living together in Greenford, London, led "very secluded lives" following their mother's death by drowning in 2010. The sisters visited an area of Birmingham near where their mother died on 11 May, before travelling to Brighton beach the next day.
The coroner noted that the sisters could not swim and drowned in adverse sea conditions in the early hours of 13 May. Their father, Joseph Jacobsen, expressed his heartbreak at losing "all three of my precious daughters," hoping they were reunited with their mother.
Police investigations revealed 227 references to water and 179 references to suicide on Christina Walters' laptop. The coroner also noted that Christina had been experiencing anxiety and depression since her mother's death.
