American country singer Bailey Zimmerman has avoided criminal prosecution following accusations that he caused extensive damage to a hotel room in New Mexico. The 26-year-old musician, who had been facing potential felony and misdemeanor charges, saw the case dismissed after he reportedly made full restitution for the damage.
The incident, which allegedly took place at the Sandia Resort and Casino in Albuquerque, involved an estimated $16,000 (approximately £12,600) worth of damage to a hotel room. A warrant for Zimmerman's arrest had been issued last week on charges including felony criminal damage to property and falsely obtaining services, a misdemeanor. However, before he could be taken into custody, Zimmerman issued a statement accepting "full responsibility" for his actions.
The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the dismissal of the case, citing that full restitution had been made to the resort. Zimmerman's lawyer stated that charges were dropped because the singer took "immediate responsibility for his mistake," expressing gratitude to the Pueblo of Sandia and the District Attorney's Office for a "just and swift resolution."
The alleged events unfolded on 27th May after Zimmerman cancelled a scheduled performance at the resort, citing illness. Court documents detailed reports from hotel staff and security, who claimed Zimmerman appeared intoxicated and was upset with his band and manager. He reportedly swung a guitar during sound check, threw a microphone, and fell multiple times on stage before returning to his hotel room.
Following the concert's cancellation, Zimmerman and his staff were asked to leave the property. Although he initially refused the resort's provided transport, he later cooperated after Sandia police were called. The following day, security and housekeeping staff discovered significant damage to the room, including a broken TV, damaged coffee table, a hole in the wall, and general damage to walls and carpet, along with two missing chairs. An unpaid alcohol bill of $400 was also reported.
In his public apology, Zimmerman expressed remorse to the Pueblo of Sandia and the resort, stating he never intended to be disrespectful and was "deeply sorry for my actions." He also apologised to his fans, acknowledging that "being a musician comes with big responsibilities, both on and off stage, and I know that I fell short that day."
